Kittochside
Museum and Farm (National Trust)
Situated on outskirts of East Kilbride, this is an excellent venue
to take the kids. Modern large building with child friendly displays
and great coffee shop/restaurant. Take the tractor ride to the working
farm to see the shire horses, calves and the farmhouse with garden
and scarecrow. We recommend you walk to the farm and get the tractor
back.

James Hamilton Heritage Park (Free entry and parking)
On the outskirts of East Kilbride very near to Kittochside. Small
man made reservoir with variety of water sports aimed at children.
15-20 walk round the reservoir on flat open tarmac paths make this
excellent for pushchairs, wheelchairs or kids with bikes, scooters
etc. Coffee shop on site and outdoor play areas for younger and older
children alike. Excellent for a couple hours of fresh air.

Finlaystone
Country Park
Just outside Port Glasgow. We cannot recommend this enough to anyone
with or without kids. If the weather is fine then this is an absolutely
great place to visit. It comprises of woodland walks with picnic sites,
excellent wooden structures for the kids to play on (large wooden
pirate ship, fort, swings. zip slides etc), wonderful gardens and
coffee shop. Allow a full day

Loch
Lomond Shores Visitor Centre (free entry and parking)
Great for a relaxing day at the gateway centre to the Loch's. Just
45 minute drive from Glasgow, this centre has something for everyone
regardless of age. Located on the picturesque shores of the Loch at
Balloch, activities include water sports for all ages, bike hire for
easy flat routes, outdoor play park with giant rope bridge, land train
rides, coffee shops and restaurants, variety of shops, large tourist
information centre, picnic sites, small fair rides and woodland walks
suitable for wheelchairs/ buggy's, and a new Aquarium, (opened in
Summer 2006). Nearby is Ballock Country Park for more open space and
walks beside the loch. Allow a full day or worth visiting if you just
have a coupe of hours.

World
Heritage site at New Lanark
Located 40 minutes drive south of Glasgow we strongly suggest you
visit this large site depicting a Victorian mill and village community.
Too much to mention for any age, but great activities, play parks,
waterfall walks with access for all, indoor interactive displays,
restaurant, shops. Also an enjoyable drive from Glasgow on the Tourist
Route signposted from the M74. Allow a full day and still worth visiting
if raining as lots to do inside.

David Livingstone Centre (National Trust)
Located in Blantyre, in a picturesque location, this museum has woodlands
walks and outdoor play park. Charts the story of the famous explorer
and geared so the kids won't get bored. Coffee shop on site. Great
for a couple of hours.

Blair Drummond Safari Park
About 45 minutes drive from Glasgow this is a major attraction in
Scotland, and will get busy during peak periods. There is so much
to do that you need to view the leaflet for the full list. Expensive
but a great day out that the kids will remember.

Strathclyde Country Park and M & D's Theme Park
South East side of East Kilbride just off the M74, about 20 mins drive
from Glasgow, there are lots of activities (both free and paid) to
choose from. The country park is surrounds a large man made reservoir
where you can hire boats, take speed boat rides and hire bikes for
the flat circular route around the park. A Land Train runs during
seasonal times and there is a large outdoor play area for kids. Located
in the park is M & D's which is a mini Alton Towers venue.

Dean
Castle & Country Park
Located 25 mins drive south of Glasgow, just off the M77 at Kilmarnock.
This is large country park with visitor centre, tearooms, pet's corner,
and large outdoor play area. Plenty of picnic tables and a great day
out when the weather is fine.

Culzean
Castle & Ayshire Coast
Located in a beautiful coastal setting with large immaculate gardens,
woodland walks and visitor centre. A very dramatic setting with huge
open spaces and outdoor trails. If driving then combine a visit to
Dunure village on the coast road. This is a chocolate box village
with small beach area, kid's playground, ruined castle and lovely
scenery.

Recommended Parks in Glasgow (Free)
Rouken Glen Park located in the South
Side next to Clarkston district, has the best outdoor children's play
park you're likely to find. Also has gentle slopes, wonderfully maintained
parkland, boating lake, woodland walk and ornamental walled garden.
Coffee Shop at the lake provides coffee and great breakfasts. There
is a garden centre also on site which also has a restaurant.

Bellahouston Park on the west side of the
city has outdoor play areas, outdoor dry ski slope, sports centre
including coffee shop, large child friendly swimming pool, and also
is the site of the "House for an Art Lover" building illustrating

Kelvingrove Park in the West End has great
open spaces, woodland walks and a larger outdoor play area. Great
location for incorporating a trip to the Transport Museum or Kelvingrove
Art Gallery which are situated next to the park.

Glasgow Green in the east side of the city
centre has a very large outdoor play area with huge climbing frames
and separate toddler play park. Glasgow Green is totally flat with
open space making it ideal for bikes, wheelchairs, buggy's etc; Located
on the Green is the Peoples Palace and Winter Garden, which is a great
free museum and glasshouse venue to visit and/or lunch at the coffee
shop.

Tollcross Park located on the east side
of the city has open space, small indoor soft play/coffee shop and
children's farm (admission fee). Also site of modern sports centre
and swimming pool that hosts national competitions.
